The Rant: A way to release pain, anger, and frustration by going on and on about something that really ticks you off but that you feel you can not control; using illogical, drawn-out speach to explain feelings of frustration and helplessness; yelling a lot.
The Rant has become a large part of my life lately. Sometimes I rant in my car to no one but myself and people driving by. Other times I rant to friends and family who really do care and who listen attentively (Thank you Celia, Aunt Connie, Jeff, Britni). It is not important what I am ranting about and maybe I don't even know sometimes, never-the-less, I am at a place right now where ranting has become therapy.
Now, we all know, that the rant's best friend is advice. Where ever the rant goes, advice is tagging along. I think everyone needs to be told that the rant hates advice. It does not even want to be in the same state as advice. Advice is poison to the rant. There is a big difference, however, between advice and a profound statement. The profound statement is a sedative to the rant. The rant thinks to itself "well, that was a profound statement, I'll have to think about that. Now back to ranting..." But at least for that brief moment, the rant is able to have a little light shed on the situation. The profound statement is extremely rare and should never be attempted if it not absolutely sure that the statement will in fact be profound. A profound statement gone wrong is almost as dispecable to the rant as advice.
However the most valuable thing to the rant is friendship and empathy. If advice or a profound statement gone wrong happen to come along, the rant should be able to understand and continue loving the source. The rant is inherently irrational, but should derive from rational thought if it is going to be at all productive.
